BCM 114 Module 2: Prototyping

This is it. The home stretch. As of October 31st, I'll have submitted my final assessment of my final semester of uni. The culmination of seventeen years of schooling, done, just like that. It's crazy to think about how much I've accomplished in those years, and how quickly it all seems to have passed (though not so much at the time). This semester, in particular, has just flown by. Granted, I've managed to keep myself busy throughout lockdown (hitting our 100th consecutive day at home earlier this week), though it still seems way too early to be Week 10 (did October come early this year?).

Being the final semester of my degree, I wanted to develop a digital artefact that'd best prepare me for entering the workforce in the coming months. Having run Listen Loud since mid-2020, I decided early on that the continuation of this project would best benefit myself as I'd be able to demonstrate my commitment to a long-term project, as well as my marketing skills. Additionally, with limited and competitive entry-level employment opportunities in entertainment business management, Listen Loud would also help me stand out against other applicants by enhancing my existing portfolio.

October marks the final month of my four-year-long university journey. Having run Listen Loud – my music blog for fans of the punk, rock and alternative genres – since mid-2020, I decided early on that the continuation of this project would best benefit myself as I'd be able to demonstrate my commitment to a long-term project, and a variety of skills practiced in the process. Additionally, as entertainment business management is a competitive field to penetrate, with limited entry-level employment opportunities available, Listen Loud would also help me stand out against other future applicants by enhancing my existing portfolio.

BCM 114 Module 1: Ideating

This semester marks the end of my four years as a University of Wollongong student, and while reflecting on this fact during the mid-year break, I began picturing my life post-University and considering what I wanted it to look like. One thing I was sure of was that I wanted to continue to pursue a career in social media marketing and event management, and that this would entail the continual building of my portfolio to stand out amongst other applicants in such a competitive industry.

My digital artefact is the continuation of my existing music blog, Listen Loud, to address the problem of limited and competitive entry-level employment opportunities in the Australian music industry. With equal passions for live music and digital marketing, this project will contribute to the expansion of my professional portfolio to support my application for industry positions following the completion of my degree. To do so, my primary focus this semester will be on expanding the Listen Loud community through the further development and optimisation of my Instagram and Facebook accounts, and creation, curation and communication of content.

BCM 302 Digital Artefact Pitch

From my personal experience seeking out digital marketing internships and entry-level positions in the Australian music industry, along with extensive research conducted on how to kickstart a career in entertainment business during previous iterations of my digital artefact, I'm very aware of the limited employment opportunities available for students and recent graduates, and the competitiveness this promotes in applicants. Upon realising how difficult it would be to secure an industry position following the completion of my degree, I decided to expand my portfolio by launching my own music blog, Listen Loud.

The #BCM112 DA: I Should Have Kept it Simple, Stupid

When I first decided I wanted to use the PASS at UOW Facebook group for my digital artefact, the problem I was attempting to address was the relative lack of participation in PASS compared to the number of students enrolled in each participating subject. By creating an informal, student-led space which encourages active participation from and between students, I hoped this would encourage others to attend also. What I hadn't anticipated, however, was a sudden and university-wide transition to remote learning, which had a massive impact on my digital artefact in a number of ways.

The #BCM112 DA: Keep it Simple, Stupid

In the weeks leading up to semester, I had considered every possible idea for my DA. Maybe I'll create an Instagram page for all my travel photos. Maybe I'll blog about all the events I attend, and review them. Maybe I'll share my extensive collection of dad jokes on Twitter under the name @daughterjokes. Up until recently, I was even set on the idea of running an Instagram/YouTube account called @seekdiscomfortuow, where I challenge both myself and students at the University to put themselves in situations that push the boundaries of their comfort zone.
